There is a real easy way to switch to your new hardware when you've bought a new Macbook or Macbook pro.
No need to import data from your old machine, just your setup exactly as you had it before.
Here is how to achieve it step by step.
- Update your OS to the latest version available by choosing "Software Update" from the
Apple menu and when done close all applications.

- Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner .
- Switch on your new Macbook while holding down the T key.
- Now connect your old and your new machine to each other using a firewire cable.
- Start Carbon Copy Cloner and select your old Macbook as the source and the new Macbook as the target and start the clone. (this could take a while depending on the amount of data that needs to be transferred)
When it's done you can startup your new Macbook and it will be configured as an exact replica of your old machine.
* Note: This is not possible when moving from PowerPC (like iBook and Powerbook) to Intel proccessor (Macbook).
From PowerPC to PowerPC or Intel to Intel works great!
