Calling via a voip phone using a sip provider like voipcheap or voipbuster is quite popular these days.
The most important reason for it is because it's just super cheap!
Here is how to set it up so you can make phone calls directly with your Macbook.
I recommend using a headphone. (the other end of the line will thank you for it.
Before you begin you must create an account on voipbuster or voipcheap.
You can only do this on a computer with windows.. (maybe your macbook has windows installed)
1. download the software.

2. install it.
3. go to the preferences
Go to the profiles tab and click on "new"
Any name will do.
These settings for the "Initialization" tab.
These on the "SIP Proxy" tab.
these on the "STUN" tab
4. back on the profile page select the profile you've just created and hit the "Initialize" button
5. enter your username.
6. enter your password
Now click on "Use" and close the Preferences.
Call someone and see if it works.
For use with voipcheap you can just replace "buster" with "cheap" and it should be fine.
