You can ofcourse use the finder to connect to an ftp server.
However for some odd reason it only allows you to download from an ftp server and not upload.

But luckily  there are the heroes of the open source world.
One of their projects is Cyberduck.
It's an open source ftp & and sftp browser client. and it's easy to use it for uploads too.
